This is an overview of our week. Each day the class writes daily homework in the student agendas.


Math: 

PSI IS ON MONDAY AND WILL ALWAYS BE ON MONDAY FROM NOW ON.

Chapter 4 continues this week; check the NEW syllabus for specific information.

Interactive Math Notebooks are important tools that provide students with examples and practice for each lesson. The syllabus outlines the homework requirements.

Reading:

Novel Study continues in class: Sign of the Beaver

We are reading this novel in class, practicing reading strategies and then responding in writing. There will be comprehension checks and grand discussions.

Students are now writing responses to their independent reading, each night M-Th.

Weekly Readers have arrived! They are delivered on Monday, due the next Monday; holidays may interrupt the cycle.

Poetry:

One poem a week to enjoy is the plan. Students are creating Poetry Anthologies that hold the poems and their responses to the poetry.

Writing: 

Focus: writing lessons and journal writing

We will begin writing Response to LIterature

Wordly Wise:

We take two weeks to study each lesson.

Lesson 6 ;  See agenda for nightly assignments; Ex E is always due Wednesday of the second week and the test is always on Thursday of the second week.

Social Studies:

We begin our new unit on Explorers of the Americas:

What made them come? How did they mangage the trip?

What did they find? How did they change the world?

Science:

Living Things: Body Systems

We will continue our studies of Chapter 3 this week.  Students will be developing a "Body Book" of all body systems, in addition to class notes, as we study four of the major body systems.

Students will be given opportunites to research fascinating comparisons of the human body system compared to other mammals.  In addition, they may explore the results of what may happen if any of the body systems do not function efficiently.
